Inspirational Place: Brooklyn
Brooklyn was an independent incorporated city until January 1, 1898, when Brooklyn became consolidated with the other cities, boroughs and counties to form the modern City of New York. It continues, however, to maintain a distinct culture where particular ethnic and nationality groups and cultures predominate. Brooklyn is the scene of many feature films as well as the home to many well known musicians and actors throughout the years including Woody Allen, Barbara Streisand, composers Aaron Copland, John Corigliano and George Gershwin, rapper Jay-Z and singer-songwriters Norah Jones and Carolle King.
The many communities, which comprise the borough of Brooklyn have long intrigued Margaret. From recording in Greenpoint to visiting cousins in Flatbush, Brooklyn has become a second home. From the Promenade, the shops along Montague Street and the interesting architecture in Brooklyn Heights to the to Prospect Park and the Botanical Gardens, there is a lot about Brooklyn that has inspired Margaret throughout the years. Margaret filmed part of her music video, “Bricks in the Wall” on the Brooklyn Bridge. Presently, Margaret’s non profit organization, Azalea Blossom, is headquartered in Brooklyn.
